Lifting Asset Management Maturity Through a Prioritised, ISO-Aligned Improvement Strategy

Client

Local Government Authority, Metropolitan Melbourne

Key Services / Asset Management Domains

Asset management maturity assessment and improvement plan.

Overview

  • Council requested a review of its asset management operating model to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend key actions within a broader improvement strategy to enhance its asset management capability.

  • Council also indicated an interest in ‘aligning’ its asset management practices with the key requirements of ISO 5501.  This requirement formed part of the engagement scope.

The Challenge

  • Like many organisations within this industry sector, Council expressed genuine ambitions to make step improvements in the life cycle management of its infrastructure, despite being funding and resource constrained.

The Approach

  • A review of relevant documentation & business processes and engagement with key personnel helped to understand Council’s current state of asset management maturity against the Global Forum on Maintenance and Asset Management Landscape 3Ed, and the Institute of Asset Management’s maturity scale.

The Outcome

  • A prioritised asset management improvement plan was developed based on maturity gaps with associated opportunities for improvement, recommended actions.

  • An optimised and cost effective delivery model was recommended based on the concurrent development of complementary actions.
